The South Platte Enhancement Board (SPEB) was established to support and implement the South Platte Protection Plan (SPPP).  Initiated in 1997, the SPPP is an alternative to the U.S.D.A. Forest Service’s (USFS) study of sections of the Upper South Platte River and its North Fork for possible designation under the Wild & Scenic Rivers Act.  SPEB works to enhance and preserve Outstandingly Remarkable Values (ORVs) within portions of the South Platte River basin including recreation, fisheries, wildlife, geology, cultural and historical resources, vegetation and scenic values.  Duties of the SPEB include:

  • Evaluation of grant proposals that may contribute to the ORVs
  • Management and distribution of approved grant funding
  • Building community awareness of the South Platte River’s values as a water source and cherished resource legacy
  • Serving as an advocate for cooperative implementation of the SPPP
